While Avalon cruises provide a selection of nutritious local delicacies and Western favorites at every meal, we’re raising the bar with the introduction of Avalon FreshSM. Created in conjunction with two of Europe’s rising culinary stars—the Wrenkh brothers—Avalon Fresh allows travelers to guiltlessly indulge in creative dishes that combine surprising flavors with a dash of innovation.

With the philosophy of procuring the freshest ingredients from small farms and local producers, Avalon Fresh brings the passing landscape to your clients’ plate for an inspiring, fulfilling and healthful dining experience—an exciting collection of wholesome menu items so mouthwatering it’s hard to believe they’re healthy. Our focus for this new menu collection is fresh, local ingredients from small farms married with a sprinkle of ingenuity, leaving Avalon cruisers feeling great throughout the day.

Whether clients are focused on healthy dining alternatives or just great food, every dining experience with Avalon is an opportunity to bring each destination to life. We put care into creating every day’s menu, using fresh, quality ingredients—all prepared to perfection by our culinary artisans.

 

Our team views dinners as the perfect complement to a day of discovery. We craft our recipes using high-quality, prime-cut beef, fresh fish and an accompaniment of hand-picked local fruits, vegetables and garden greens. Every dinner features a specialty dish from the destination as well as a choice of wine, including special wines of the region, selected by a professional sommelier and always complimentary.

 

Aboard our Suite ShipsSM, guests can also take advantage of the Panorama Bistro—a casual atmosphere offering a variety of regional and tapas-style dishes, hand-paired with local wines. Travelers enjoy hand-carved meats and expansive buffets, including fresh salads and amazing homemade soups. On sunny days, guests can enjoy lunch with a view, courtesy of our Sky Bistro, featuring grilled meats and local delicacies.

 

Each morning, we invite travelers to start the day with an extensive breakfast buffet where they can enjoy a made-to-order omelet, fresh fruit and an assortment of fresh baked breads. On an Avalon river cruise, every meal is part of the journey.

Culinary Mastery

Avalon Waterways is pleased to announce our new Director of Culinary, Joerg Penneke. Executive Chef Joerg Penneke studied in Germany at the Hotel Gaststaetten Berlin under Simon Bolivar. Since then, he has spent nearly 30 years working in award-winning restaurants, hotels and cruise ships throughout Europe, New Zealand and Asia. Chef Penneke will help Avalon’s team of culinary artisans bring each destination to life for guests, creating menus that feature fresh, quality ingredients prepared to perfection and ensuring Avalon’s dining experience, from start-to-finish, is the perfect complement to a day of discovery.
