The Levity Effect: It Pays to Lighten Up
(Dec 1)

Presented by Scott Christopher, is author of the bestselling People People: Who They Are, Why They Win and How To Become One and The Levity Effect: Why It Pays to Lighten Up, and contributing author of The Daily Carrot Principle and A Carrot A Day.

Business professionals who consciously and deliberately lighten up can reap real rewards. Citing research, case studies and powerful examples, Scott shows that people with a sense of humor climb the corporate ladder faster — and make more money — than their more serious peers. The three Levity pillars of “latitude, attitude and gratitude" accelerate employee commitment and engagement more than any other leadership value. The Levity Effect is not about whoopee cushions and one-liners at work; it’s less about being funny as it is about being fun. Meeting planners will learn how levity enhances their communications with suppliers, improving negotiations and outcomes, and setting the foundation for long-term business partnerships.

Participants will learn:

  • How Levity enhances communications, strengthens sales relationships and builds trust
  • How traditionally “serious" organizations are using Levity to drive results
  • How and why to take a holistic approach to Levity (take it home!)

Move on Purpose: Using Body Language for Better Business Dealings (Dec 2)

Presenter: Linda Talley,
an expert in leadership development and body language. Dr. Talley’s diverse background includes private practice, university professor, organizational development consultant and business educator.

Every move you make sends a message. When we verbally speak to business partners and colleagues, we also are sending nonverbal messages that either attract them to us or distance them from us. What are you saying with your hands and posture? Based on her pioneering research on this topic, Dr. Linda Talley identifies these nonverbal messages and tells us how to use body language to our best advantage.

Participants will learn:

  • What nonverbal behavior creates attraction vs. distance
  • How to motivate yourself prior to negotiations
  • How to use space for effect
  • The nonverbal secrets of influence and persuasion
  • Power posing and power gazing
  • Using touch to make an emotional connection
